Elsa/Getty Images/AFPNEW YORK — Minutes into the playoff debut for these young New York Yankees, they trailed Minnesota by three runs. Their starting pitcher lasted just one out. A sellout crowd was stunned.Could their postseason be over almost before it began?ADVERTISEMENT Nope. A strange AL wild-card game was only just beginning.“We’ve had a quite a few games where we’ve gotten down early,” Aaron Judge said. “Just keep battling. Just stay calm. Just play your game, and good things will happen.”FEATURED STORIESSPORTSWATCH: Drones light up sky in final leg of SEA Games torch runSPORTSSEA Games: Philippines picks up 1st win in men’s water poloSPORTSMalditas save PH from shutoutJudge, Didi Gregorius and a brilliant bullpen rescued New York and lifted the Yankees to their first postseason victory in five years.Gregorius’ three-run homer tied the score in the first inning after Minnesota knocked out Luis Severino, a pumped-up Judge showed his most emotion this season when he hit a two-run shot in his playoff debut and the Yankees beat the Twins 8-4 Tuesday night. New York plays the Indians in a best-of-five Division Series starting Thursday. “We’re not done yet,” Judge said. “We’ve just got to keep it rolling in Cleveland.”Brett Gardner also homered for the Yankees, who chased Ervin Santana after two innings and once again eliminated Minnesota from the playoffs.Chad Green, David Robertson, Tommy Kahnle and Aroldis Chapman combined for 8 2/3 innings of one-run, five-hit relief, striking out 13 to tie the postseason record for a bullpen.“It was just remarkable,” Yankees manager Joe Girardi said.Twins manager Paul Molitor marveled at the Yankees relievers and Girardi’s use of them over 142 pitches.“He extended some guys probably past their comfort zone,” the Hall of Famer said. “They still performed.”ADVERTISEMENT Brian Dozier led off the game with a home run and Eddie Rosario hit a two-run drive as the Twins burst to a quick lead. But Santana went to full counts on eight of 11 batters, and he was removed after six outs and 64 pitches with the Twins trailing 4-3.“It’s the exhilaration of jumping out,” Molitor said, “and then the deflation of giving it back so quickly.”Minnesota, the first team to follow a 100-loss season with a playoff appearance, lost its 13th consecutive postseason game, tying the record set by Boston from 1986-95. The Twins have been eliminated by the Yankees in five of their last six postseason appearances and have not won a playoff series since 2002.“Nobody expected us to be here,” Byron Buxton said. “That’s an amazing achievement.”New York won nine regular-season games after trailing by three runs, according to the Elias Sports Bureau — including when Severino fell behind against the Twins on Sept. 20 as New York rebounded to complete a series sweep. Gregorius erased the deficit in this one four batters into the bottom of the first.“I was hyped, and I tried to get the game going, tried to get the guys going,” he said.Judge, the 6-foot-7 sensation who set a rookie record with 52 home runs, was given a Ruthian ovation, with several sections of fans holding signs in his honor spelling out “All Rise!” He scored three runs, hitting a single to help ignite the first-inning rally, smoking a 108 mph home run off loser Jose Berrios in the fourth and walking in the seventh before coming home when Alan Busenitz walked Aaron Hicks with the bases loaded.Judge shouted in excitement as he rounded first base after the homer, his face flush with emotion.“This place was rocking. It was incredible,” he said. New York had made only one postseason appearance since 2012, losing the 2015 wild-card game to Houston 3-0. Just three Yankees who started that game were in the starting lineup, part of a Baby Bombers movement that purged the roster of veterans. At 23, Severino was the youngest Yankees postseason starter since Andy Pettitte in 1995. The right-hander lasted only 29 pitches on a crisp autumn night and matched the Yankees’ shortest postseason start, by Bob Turley in Game 2 of the 1958 World Series and Art Ditmar in the 1960 World Series opener.Severino was shaking his head as walked to the dugout and Green replaced him with runners at second and third. Green struck out Buxton and Jason Castro , then fanned three in a row in the second.“I think we’re all ready to be in from the first to the ninth,” Green said.Robertson came in with the bases loaded in the third and allowed Buxton’s RBI grounder , then struck out Castro.Robertson tired in the sixth but earned the win, leaving after 52 pitches and 3 1/3 innings. His only longer professional outing was 3 2/3 innings for Double-A Trenton in April 2008.Kahnle relieved with a runner on and retired Joe Mauer on a flyout to the warning track . After Kahnle threw 2 1/3 perfect innings , Chapman struck out three around a hit in the ninth.A pitcher named Santana — Johan Santana — beat the Yankees for the Twins’ last postseason win in 2004. But Ervin Santana’s career postseason ERA climbed to 6.57, contributing to a first inning that lasted 45 minutes and three innings that took 1:43.Gardner walked leading off, Judge poked a single to center and Gregorius lined a fastball over the right-field scoreboard. Brushed off the plate by a 2-2 pitch in the second, Gardner sent Santana’s next offering into the second deck in right for a 4-3 lead.Green struck out the side in the second, but left in the third after a leadoff single and two walks loaded the bases. Buxton hit into a run-scoring forceout before Robertson struck out Castro, and the Yankees went ahead for good in the bottom half when Gary Sanchez doubled off Berrios leading off and scored on Greg Bird’s two-out single. Lazio coach Inzaghi upset with Gasperini after six-goal thrillerby Carlos Volcano5 days agoSend to a friendShare the loveLazio coach Simone Inzaghi was disappointed with Atalanta rival Gian Piero Gasperini after Saturday’s 3-3 thriller. The Aquile fought back from 3-0 down to draw 3-3 – including two Ciro Immobile spot-kicks.“It was a very clear match. Atalanta dominated the first half, while we dominated the second with three extraordinary scoring opportunities on top of the goals. Thomas Strakosha only made one save after the break,” insisted Inzaghi in his Press conference.Gasperini was furious in his post-match interview, claiming Immobile had ‘dived’ for both penalties.“I admire him as a colleague. I listen to his words, but I do not accept them, because the two penalties are clear. We lost the Champions League place twice due to refereeing incidents, so in this sport you have to accept situations and especially today, when they were very clear.“I am disappointed he decided to say these things about Immobile, as there was clear contact.” About the authorCarlos VolcanoShare the loveHave your say
zoom Northern Europe’s shipping and logistics company DFDS has today ordered two additional RoRo newbuildings from Jinling Shipyard in China. The new ships are slated for delivery in early 2020 and are planned to be deployed in DFDS’ route network on the North Sea.“The ships form part of our new building programme that underpins our ability to deliver the transport capacity required by our customers and our continuous pursuit of efficiency improvements,” says Niels Smedegaard, CEO.The ships are similar to the two ships ordered in September 2016, for delivery in early 2019, and are likewise designed to each carry 6,700 lane metres of freight equivalent to around 450 trailers. The large size of the ships will decrease unit costs as well as the environmental impact per transported unit, the company said in a release. As disclosed, the ships represent a new generation of environmentally friendly RoRo ships as they comply with the latest environmental rules of the new IMO-standard EEDI (Energy Efficency Design Index). Also included are scrubbers for the removal of sulphur, ballast water treatment systems and a number of energy efficiency initiatives. The investment in the two ships totals around DKK 1.0 billion (USD 150 million) to be paid during the period from ordering to delivery in early 2020. More than half of the payment is due on delivery.Hence, DFDS’ investment outlook for 2017 is raised to DKK 1.8 billion from previously DKK 1.7 billion following the new order.

Noida: A BJP leader in Uttar Pradesh has announced severing ties with his son after he was fielded by the Congress as a Lok Sabha candidate and alleged the opposition party exploited “political differences” within his family. The Congress on Saturday announced Arvind Kumar Singh, son of BJP MLC Jaivir Singh, as its candidate from the Gautam Buddh Nagar constituency, which is currently represented by BJP leader and Union minister Mahesh Sharma. The Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party have already fielded Satveer Nagar from the constituency. The BJP is yet to announce its candidate. In a Facebook post on March 17, Jaivir Singh said his whole family including wife Raj Kumari Chauhan, a former Lok Sabha MP from Aligarh, their three sons and a nephew have “complete loyalty” with the BJP and are committed to the public policies of the party and Prime Minister Narendra Modi “But my son Arvind Kumar Singh started expressing a different ideology ever since his marriage two years ago and he started staying separately from the family,” the MLC said. Jaivir Singh, who earlier served as a BSP MLA from Barauli, said he joined the BJP in 2017. Arvind was opposed to the BJP and did not took its membership, he said. “Therefore, he was also released from the position of the Chancellor of the (Noida International) University. Now all social and political relations with him have come to an end,” Singh said.
Madrid: Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez led Barcelona to a stunning comeback against Villarreal on Tuesday and may have ensured there will be no return for Atletico Madrid in La Liga’s title race. Atletico play Barca at the Camp Nou on Saturday and were given fresh hope of a resurgence when struggling Villarreal, inspired by the brilliant Santi Cazorla, led the Catalans 4-2 going into the final minute. But Messi, who had started on the bench, drove in a free-kick in the 90th and in the 93rd, Suarez fired in a devastating half-volley to earn Barca a 4-4 draw and an unlikely point. Also Read – Puducherry on top after 8-wkt win over ChandigarhCombined with Atletico’s earlier 2-0 victory over Girona, the result means the gap at the top is reduced to eight points ahead of this weekend’s top of the table meeting but Ernesto Valverde’s side celebrated Suarez’s goal like it was a winner. “In the end it is only a point but there is a certain feeling after coming back from two goals down in the last minute,” Valverde said. Cazorla, meanwhile, sank to his knees, a chance spurned for Villarreal to pull four points clear of the relegation zone, with Celta Vigo, now only two behind, still to play Huesca on Wednesday. Also Read – Vijender’s next fight on Nov 22, opponent to be announced laterThey had come from two down, as Samuel Chukwueze and Karl Toko Ekambi cancelled out early goals from Philippe Coutinho and Malcom. Vicente Iborra and Carlos Bacca looked to have sealed an incredible win, only for Messi and Suarez to intervene. The pair have now scored 51 goals between them in the league this season, just one shy of the total managed by Real Madrid. “The spirit we showed at the end, to refuse to give in, to come back in the last minute – we showed that we want to win this league,” said Suarez. Rested along with Gerard Pique and Ivan Rakitic, it seemed Barcelona would not need Messi as Coutinho tapped in a pass by Malcom, who then headed in Arturo Vidal’s cross for a 2-0 lead after 16 minutes. But Villarreal sprung into life, revived by Chukwueze, who pulled one back seven minutes later. A sumptuous flick by Iborra launched the counter-attack and Cazorla sent the striker clear.
New Delhi: The government has issued a notification taking over the National Housing Bank (NHB) after buying entire stake for Rs 1,450 crore from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The RBI has exited the NHB, thus making it a fully government-owned entity. The central bank was holding 100 per cent stake in the NHB, the housing finance regulator. The move is part of ending the cross-holding in regulatory institutions and follows the recommendation of Narasimham-II committee report of October 2001 and the RBI’s own discussion paper on the same, titled ‘Harmonising the Role and Operations of Development Financial Institutions and Banks’. Also Read – Commercial vehicle sales to remain subdued in current fiscal: Icra”The central government hereby notifies that the subscribed capital of Rs 1,450 crore of the NHB by the RBI, stands transferred to, and vested in the central government upon payment of the face value of the subscribed capital, to the RBI, with effect from the 19th day of March, 2019,” said the finance ministry notification dated April 29. The Narasimham panel had said the RBI could not own those entities which are regulated by it. The RBI has also divested its shareholding in Nabard. The central bank held 72.5 per cent equity in Nabard worth Rs 1,450 crore, of which 71.5 per cent amounting to Rs 1,430 crore were divested way back in October 2010 and the residual shareholding was divested on February 26, 2019. Earlier, the RBI had proposed to transfer its ownership in State Bank of India, NHB and Nabard to the government in October 2001.
“We are confident that we will have the data we need to make this a strong business long-term,” according to a spokeswoman from Conde Nast. The other Conde Nast titles that will soon have iPad subscription models include Vanity Fair, Glamour, Golf Digest, Allure, Wired, Self and GQ.The New Yorker and these other titles will have the ability to optimize data collection. Apple has a standard prompt for subscription offerings that allows consumers to opt-in to share their information. This new subscription model will have a second prompt that comes during the purchasepath that asks a reader to share their e-mail address and establish a log-in in order to access additional content. The additional content includes, in the case of The New Yorker, the Web based edition available at NewYorker.com and archives of the magazine dating back until 1925. The second prompt is a second opportunity to encourage a reader to share their contact information.Additionally, the publication could gain more consumer data if print subscribers take advantage of the iPad versions; Conde Nast owns the relationship when a print subscriber activates the digital editions. There are about 1 million print subscribers to the magazine, all of whom have access if they so choose. The bundled subscriptions (Web site, iPad and print access) will allow for data collection optimization when users buy directly from NewYorker.com because Conde Nast will have direct access to a consumer’s information. “The fact that we’re offering the print digital bundles on our sites for the same price as the digital only edition through iTunes is certainly attractive and compelling for us,” the spokeswoman says. When asked about the 30/70 percent revenue split and whether or not it is applied in this case, Murphy declined to discuss the revenue details of the agreement. According to a news release The New Yorker’s weekly iPad editions are available through in-app purchase at the App Store, on iTunes and include password access to the Web-based edition for $5.99 per month for four issues or $59.99 per year. The Print and digital bundled subscriptions available at NewYorker.com are $6.99 per month for four issues and $69.99 ayear. The other seven titles will be $1.99 per month or $19.99 per year through in-app purchase at the App Store. Magazine giant Conde Nast has reached an agreement with Apple, Inc. on digital subscriptions of The New Yorker and seven other titles that will debut in the next few weeks.Subscriptions for the publications will be available through iTunes and in the App Store. Those who subscribe to the print publication are granted immediate access to the digital editions throughout the life of their current print subscriptions, while new print subscribers will get both paper and digital access.”The iPad has created an incredible new way for readers to experience our award-winning magazines. Over time, we’ll see subscriptions leading to greater and greater scale, helping to drive overall industry growth,” says Conde Nast president Robert A. Sauerberg, Jr. in a statement.Apple and many publishers have been at odds about the consumer data available to publications and the 30 percent fee the technology company charges, as reported by AD’s sister publication, FOLIO:Magazine. Over the past week, however, Time Inc., Hearst and now Conde Nast have all reached agreements with Apple.

YouTube’Virus’, one of the most anticipated Malayalam movies of the year, finally graced the big screens on June 7. The film has been ruling the headlines since the date of its announcement, and after the recently released trailer, expectations surrounding this flick reached sky high. It should be noted that this Aashiq Abu directorial is a survival thriller, and it portrays some real-life incidents which happened in Kerala last year when Nipah virus started killing humans with full fury. Interestingly, the film reached theatres at a time when Kerala is once again facing the threat of Nipah virus.Loaded with an ensemble star cast, ‘Virus’ features Kunchakko Boban, Asif Ali, Tovino Thomas, Parvathy Thiruvoth, Revathy, Rima Kallingal, Rahman, Indrajith Sukumaran, Joju George, Indrans, Soubin Shahir, and Remya Nambeeshan in lead roles. Please scroll down to read our genuine and unbiased review of ‘Virus’.A tale of survivalThe film showcases some real-life incidents which happened in Kozhikode during the Nipah outbreak in 2018. In the initial moments itself, director Aashiq Abu loudly proclaimed that he has made this movie after doing so much research. The first half of the film primarily concentrated on the beginning of the Nipah outbreak, and the fear it spread among the people in the area. There are some fine moments in the first half, and it includes a scene where Tovino Thomas who plays the role of the district collector talking to Ambulance drivers who were hesitant to drive vehicles due to the fear of getting infected. Even though the first half ended in a very interesting note, the second half failed to keep up the momentum. In the second half, the director seems a little clueless on what he was doing and at times, the script derailed from his hands. However, when the film neared the climax, Aashiq Abu once again showed his magical filmmaking skills, and the climax speech delivered by Revathy gave goosebumps to the audiences.Technical side’Virus’ can be considered as one of the most technically sound films ever produced in the history of Malayalam film industry. The cinematography handled by Rajeev Ravi and Shyju Khalid seems top notch, and the music composed by Sushin Shyam was mind-blowing. The editing was crisp, but the film would have been much more enjoyable if Saiju Sreedharan trimmed some of the unwanted scenes in the second half.Aashiq Abu as a director deserves full mark for crafting the first half of the movie in such an engrossing manner. In the second half, the film lacked cinematic elements, and at times, it felt like a documentary. The fake note sequence in the climax sequence could have been avoided, as it had nothing to do with the storyline.Aashiq Abu has also tried to convey his political ideologies in this movie by portraying a team of central government health experts under a bad light.PerformancesAll the actors have given their best in the movie. Tovino Thomas and Kunchakko Boban had more screen space in the movie when compared to other stars, and both of them did full justice to their roles. Parvathy Thiruvoth, as usual, was excellent, and Revathy once again delivered a breathtaking performance on screen. However, the surprise package in this movie was the character played by Sreenath Bhasi. The actor shined in the role of a junior doctor and is undoubtedly the show stealer in this film.Final verdict’Virus’ is a story of survival. Even though there are a few flaws in the second half, this film will make you realize what had happened in those crucial days when fear loomed an entire district in Kerala.

Prothom Alo File PhotoBangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Saturday voiced deep concern over the recent killing of six people in Rangamati, saying it has exposed the Awami League-led government’s ‘misrule’.”Six people, including a public representative Shaktiman Chakma, were killed in Rangamati while Narsingdi’s Banshbari Union Parishad chairman Sirajul Haque was also shot dead in broad daylight. These incidents are the awful examples of Awami misrule,” said BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.Speaking at a press conference at BNP’s Naya Paltan central office, he also said the government is responsible for these bloody incidents. “We strongly condemn and protest at the killings in Rangamati and Narsingdi.”Rangamti’s Naniarchar Upazila chairman Shaktiman Chakma was gunned down on Thursday, while five of his supporters were killed on Friday in a gun attack on a microbus on their way to his funeral.Sirajul Haque was killed as a group of miscreants opened fire on him on his way back home from the Raipura upazila headquarters, Narsigndi on Thursday afternoon.Rizvi said people across the country are now suffering from a sense of insecurity due to the government’s failure to maintain the law and order. “People will have no security as long as this regime remains in power.”He said though their party has long been voicing deep concern over their chairperson Khaleda Zia’s falling health, the government is not taking any step to ensure her better treatment. The BNP leader renewed their party’s demand for allowing Khaleda to receive treatment at the capital’s United Hospital. He alleged police continued to arrest BNP leaders and activists in polls-bound Khulna and Gazipur as part of their desperate efforts to ensure victory of the ruling party candidates in the two city elections.Rizvi said the government is not willing to hold a fair election in the two cities to avoid its debacle.

That’s up from $1.5 billion in Q1 of 2018. Not accounting for seasonal fluctuations, this would mean that Amazon may spend around $7 billion on content this year. The company has not broken out these content costs in past quarters, and instead included them in its cost of sales. Analysts and industry watchers have been eagerly awaiting more detailed disclosures to see how Amazon’s spending is matching up to the money Netflix is shelling out on original content. ×Actors Reveal Their Favorite Disney PrincessesSeveral actors, like Daisy Ridley, Awkwafina, Jeff Goldblum and Gina Rodriguez, reveal their favorite Disney princesses. And Amazon didn’t stop there. “Total video and music expense includes licensing and production costs associated with content offered within Amazon Prime memberships, and costs associated with digital subscriptions and sold or rented content,” the company declared in its filing. In other words: Any digital video that Amazon rented or sold to its customers, whether they are Prime subscribers or not, was also part of the Q1 content cost total. The same goes for any paid MP3 download. What’s more, any of the money Amazon hands to publishers like HBO, Showtime or Starz for reselling their subscription services as part of Amazon Channels, was likely included as well.Among analysts and journalists covering the company, Amazon is infamous for releasing data points that don’t tell us much at all, with executives regularly boosting percentage growth stats without referring to absolute numbers. Friday’s release goes a bit further, and does offer some concrete evidence that the company’s content business is big, and growing. It also shows that Amazon is still spending a lot less than Netflix, which is expected to invest as much as $15 billion in original and licensed content this year. However, it does not tell us how much Amazon is really investing in video for Prime subscribers.

While traditional prototyping requires a degree of craftsmanship, 3-D printing makes it easier to bring an idea to life without an entrepreneur getting his or her hands dirty, especially with the help of open innovation platforms.By participating in 3-D printing open-innovation platforms such as Spark, RepRap, Lulzbot and MakerBot Thingiverse, users can legally exchange digital information for products that will be 3-D printed. Members of the communities surrounding these platforms can access the computer-assisted drawings and files of other members to do three-dimensional printing. That way, individuals with product ideas can easily access thousands of product-design files that have been tweaked and uploaded. This collaborative exchange eliminates some of the preliminary guesswork involved with prototyping, making it easier for ideas to be conceptualized and then developed into prints.Access to 3-D printing open-innovation platforms is especially helpful when an inventor prints out an product that contains many internal components. Rather than exhausting a lot of resources to visualize, develop and print all the necessary pieces, inventors can often find the preliminary work in a form that’s ready to be printed and free to access. In addition, three-dimensional printing and computer-aided design services are becoming widely available to inventors who have a sketch or vision but who lack the technical skills to convert it into a printable file. Major office-supply chains, such as Staples, local printing and graphic shops and even UPS have begun offering 3-D printing services for a nominal fee. Of course, creating a prototype is just the first step in bringing an idea to market.
